Bodrum, located in Muğla Province, is one of Turkey’s most cherished tourist paradises. Located on the Aegean coast, Bodrum—formerly known as Halicarnassus—is a peninsula famous for both its beaches and its nightlife. When you first arrive in Bodrum, you’ll be greeted by a sign...

If this is your first time seeing this sign, you can be sure it won’t be the last.
Welcome to Bodrum.
Today, we’ve prepared a detailed guide that will fit perfectly into your short getaway plans and help you make the most of your extended stays inBodrum.
Where to Start
If this is your first visit to Bodrum, we recommend taking a short tour of the city center to explore it. A walk along the waterfront from the Bodrum marina toward Kumbahçe will help you get into the spirit of Bodrum from the very first minute.
Bodrum Castle
Bodrum Castle was built in the 1400s by the Knights of St. John (Wikipedia). Perched right on the water’s edge, it’s a truly postcard-perfect castle. It’s located along the same route as your seaside walk. The Underwater Archaeology Museum is also located inside Bodrum Castle.

Bodrum Castle is open to tourists for a fee. Turkish citizens and students can purchase tickets at significantly discounted rates. If you have a Museum Card, you can tour this historic castle for free.

As of 2025, the ticket price is reportedly 150₺. However, there is no specific price information available for 2026.
The Bodrum Castle ticket offices are open for ticket sales from 9:00AM to 7:00 PM. You can also purchase your ticket at the ticket office.
Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum
This is the most valuable heritage site located within Bodrum Castle. Authentic shipwrecks recovered from the sea bear traces of trade dating back to 3,300 B.C. (the Bronze Age). It is also recognized as one of the world’s most significant shipwrecks.

Exact replicas of ancient ships dating back thousands of years lie here. You can see the remains of the cargo they carried, such as wine, olive oil, and grain containers. More than just a traditional museum, it is essentially a historical showcase beneath the sea.

To enter the Underwater Archaeology Museum, you can purchase your tickets at the ticket office. If you’d prefer to buy them online, you can do so at muze.gov.tr/bodrum-sualti-arkeoloji-muzesi-bilet.

Now let’s take a break from history and head back to the streets of Bodrum...
Bodrum Bar Street
Back in the 1970s and 1980s, these streets—once a quiet fishing village—weren’t nearly as popular as they are today. They were frequented by artists and writers. Cevat Şakir Kabaağaçlı, a prominent figure of the era (see Wikipedia), had a significant influence on this area.

Today, however, it has become a street famous for its shops, cafes, and pubs. After visiting the castle, a 30-minute stroll down Bar Street will be a pleasant experience. You can also check out our article on the best pubs and bars in Bodrum for recommendations and addresses of places to enjoy a drink.

As you walk along Bar Street, you’ll notice that the street is lined with awnings along the entire length. During the day, they offer at least some protection from the heat.

While walking along Bar Street, it’s quite enjoyable to spend time at the restaurants along the waterfront. You can either have a light meal or grab some snacks and a beer. It’s especially pleasant in the late afternoon.

In the sections of Bodrum’s Bar Street that open onto the side streets, you can also discover laid-back taverns, small and cozy cafes, and hidden restaurants.
Places to Swim in Bodrum
There are many options for swimming in Bodrum. However, let’s take a look at the best choices for you in terms of water clarity and comfortable seabed conditions.
Bitez Beach
It’s generally a 20-minute drive from the city center, though it can take up to 40 minutes depending on summer traffic. This is the town home to the famous Bitez ice cream shop. The water is quite clean, and the seabed is mostly sandy.

It’s a great option for swimming that’s closest to Bodrum’s city center. It features both paid beaches and free public beaches. You can also enjoy this beach with your own table and chairs.

Ortakent Yahşi Beach
Also quite close to Bitez (10 min away) is Ortakent Beach, known for its crystal-clear waters. It features both paid lounge chairs and public areas.

Additionally, the famous Camel Beach is located in this area. In the past, ostriches and various other animals were kept in shelters on this beach.
Akyarlar Karaincir Beach
Karaincir Beach is a magnificent gem of Bodrum... Located at the other end of the Bodrum Peninsula, Akyarlar borders the Turgutreis region. You can reach this beach by car from the city center in 50 minutes.

Also, while in Akyarlar, you can see the island of Kos with the naked eye. You can even see its lights in the evening—it’s quite close. Here, your cell phone service may accidentally connect to Greek frequencies.
Speaking of Kos Island, if you’d like to take a day trip from Bodrum to Kos Island, we highly recommend checking out our article, “A Day Trip from Bodrum to Kos Island,” which we’ve carefully prepared for you with all the details.

Bodrum Restaurants
After a beautiful day, a pleasant dinner overlooking the sea is a must...
Gümüşlük
Our first recommendation is, of course, Gümüşlük. At the famous restaurants with tables set right on the water, seafood meze and light Aegean wines create an atmosphere that’s both romantic and very relaxed.

Most of the restaurants in Gümüşlük are located by the sea and cater to all tastes.
Bitez
Ideal for those seeking tables along the shore, a gentle breeze, and a more local vibe. You can enjoy raki and fish on the fine sand and sample Aegean meze and salads.

It’s generally quieter and a popular choice for families. Prices are moderate.
Yalıkavak
If you’re looking to enjoy a high-quality dinner, Yalıkavak might be the right choice. With chic cocktails, fresh seafood, and marina views, a dinner in Yalıkavak is unforgettable.

Yalıkavak has a more upscale and slightly luxurious atmosphere. Prices are generally high.
Note: We highly recommend making a reservation in advance during the summer months.

Bodrum Nightlife
All of Bodrum’s energy is in its nightlife. If you enjoy light music, the bars along the coast are a great choice. With the view, conversation, and wine, it’s the perfect way to kick off the evening.
Yula
If you enjoy DJ performances and techno music, Yula—located on Bar Street in Central Bodrum—is just the place for you...

On summer evenings, techno DJ performances take place on Yula’s upper floor. Due to high demand, you might not be able to find a spot. For advance reservations and more details, visit Yula’s Instagram page. In the evening, it offers an amazing atmosphere with a view of the castle.

Additionally, Yula’s beachfront section is a popular spot for spending time during the day. It has a unique and authentic vibe, and its cocktails are truly one-of-a-kind...
Pasha Club
Next up is Pasha Club, where you can enjoy a livelier night out. They usually play the most popular Turkish pop and rap songs. If you’re looking for Turkish music and dancing, you’re sure to have a great night at Pasha.

Pasha Club is located in Gümbet. It’s about a 20-minute drive from downtown Bodrum.
Beatles Pub & Cafe
If techno music or loud volumes aren’t your thing, check out the Beatles, located on Bodrum’s Bar Street—a spot that plays a mix of genres and lets you hear your conversation clearly.

Located on Bodrum’s Bar Street, right across from the Old Church, the Beatles is a very enjoyable place to spend time. It really highlights both the back-street pub culture and the quality of the music.

You can also choose Affili Pub, located right next to the Beatles. Both are situated in the middle of Bar Street, across from Burger King.
We’ve compiled a list of the most popular nightlife spots that cater to every taste. If you’d like a more comprehensive list, check out our article on Bodrum nightclubs & the best spots.
